On roads, we anticipated them to be obnoxious and unpleasant, but they weren’t. They didn’t skate around on the slippery bitumen and concrete as we had anticipated. They gripped like crazy when we applied heavy braking, contrary to what we had anticipated they would do.
We drove the ancient 75 Series in two-wheel drive with the “open” rear diff over steep, rainy track portions without slippage, unlike our colleagues who had utes with A/T and needed 4WD and traction control to avoid wheelspin and directional shifts.
They functioned like A/T tires in soft sand and didn’t stir up the sand like we had anticipated they might.
However, we’ll keep them on our pickup and assess their wear on diverse surfaces during regular operations. Our original intention was to run them for this trip and then move them to off-road use.
The Kumho MT71 are the most all-purpose M/T tires we’ve studied. Except on muddy terrain, where they gripped better than A/Ts, they have worn equally over 35,000 kilometers. They haven’t become noisier or more vibration-prone.
Never once have we considered puncturing them.

There are more expensive choices available, but they will cost a lot more. These options include features like constant grooving, greater highway speed ride and noise quality, and sipes to grip ice and packed snow.
It has a few minor flaws. As the tire transitions from off-road to on-road, noise and comfort primarily decrease, although the design is for gravel and loose dirt, not the Interstate.
