Cooper Evolution M/T Tire Review
Ideal for Muscle Cars, CROSSOVERS, and SUVs
Cooper’s Off-Road Maximum Traction tire, the Evolution M/T, is designed for drivers of pickup trucks, full-size SUVs, Jeeps, and dedicated off-road vehicles searching for a tire engineered to battle mud and made to survive the harsh circumstances found when going away from paved roads.

The Evolution M/T tires provide you with the assurance to drive in mud and on muddy roads. Earth Diggers use big blocks with alternating mud scallops to violently dig through loose dirt, sand, or sticky mud. The deep, wide ditches that continuously clear thick mud from the tires provide greater grip for Mud Slingers.

The Trail Grip Sidewall climbs over trail obstacles with “climbers” that grasp pebbles and sticks and provide intense rubbing resistance. Stone Barriers increase durability by including ridges that help defend against harm from sharp rocks and eject lodged stones.

In this review, The Cooper Evolution M/T Tire is optimized to eliminate asphalt noise and give optimal flotation in the harshest off-road conditions, according to the manufacturer.

About Cooper Evolution M/T Tire

Cooper did so soon before the pandemic began, launching the Evolution M/T in 2019.

In terms of tread design, it competes with the BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3, the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar, the Firestone Destination M/T2, the General Grabber X3, the Kumho Road Venture MT71, and the Yokohama Geolandar M/T G003.

Cooper, on the other hand, chose a significantly lower price point with the Evolution M/T.

Mud-terrain (or maximum traction off-road) tires can be highly expensive, particularly in flotation sizes. However, on average, this tire costs 20% less than the competition, making it by far the cheapest mud-terrain tire from a premium tiremaker.

When a corporation sells a product that is significantly less expensive than its competitors, it usually signifies that the engineers cut corners somewhere.

About Cooper Evolution MT Tire

Cooper Evolution M/T Review

The Cooper Evolution M/T is a high-performance all-season tire built especially for full-size SUVs, pickup trucks, Jeeps, and other off-road vehicles. Maximum Traction is what the M/T in the designation means, and it was designed for off-road travel. The Cooper Evolution M/T boasts promising characteristics and traits that seek to set your mind at ease once you try them out.

The Cooper Evolution M/T is designed to conquer tough terrains such as jagged boulders, deep sand, loose soil, and sticky mud tracks by providing just the right amount of traction.

In this review, We’ll go through the Cooper Evolution M/T Tire in detail to help you understand its strengths and potential. We’ll go over Cooper Evolution M/T’s various features to see how it stands out.

Overview of the Cooper Evolution M/T

As a result of the epidemic, interest in off-roading has increased over the past few years. That small group of people who explored distant lands has grown, with a rising number of people eager to purchase an off-road capable SUV or truck.

As a result, most automakers released off-road-specific models of their cars, while tire manufacturers hurried to market unique off-road tires.

Nonetheless, Cooper claims that the Evolution M/T is a well-balanced tire that performs well across the board while focusing on providing outstanding traction on the most difficult terrain.

However, marketing hype does not often translate into exceptional real-world performance, which is why, after 15,000 miles of use, I put the tire through its paces to see how terrific it truly is.

My Cooper Evolution M/T review will cover every facet of the tire, but off-road traction and durability will receive the most attention.

A Shina Guide technician compares the irregularly shaped, alternating large blocks to mud buckets. They quickly contact loose ground, sand, and sticky mud, boosting traction on uneven terrain for the Cooper Evolution M/T.

Features Of Cooper Evolution M/T

Cooper Tire employed a specifically formulated rubber mix to create the Evolution M/ T to enable its products to overcome challenging terrain without sacrificing inherent durability.

This material is stiffer and more durable than conventional rubber, allowing it to withstand major cuts from external environmental agents.

Of course, sharp metal components are necessary to complete the product. However, the consequences do not appear too abruptly, causing the vehicle to become unstable.

Because mud is a blend of dry and wet terrain features, it contains the same challenges as the other two categories of terrain. We are all aware that the road surface has surface resistance, whether it is dry or wet.

Because of the high density of a mixture of soil and water in muddy places, resistance becomes considerably more substantial. Fortunately, the traction of this Cooper tire model can assist us in effortlessly navigating thick bogs.

Furthermore, we cannot overlook the Trail Grip Sidewall (V-shaped Sidewall) technology, which is a useful aid in navigating difficult terrain.

These technologies will help enhance vehicle stability by protecting the sidewalls and increasing grip on the road, particularly on muddy and rough roads. As a result, we will feel more confident in moving without fear of slipping or losing control.

Safety Features

Accidents happen due to a variety of vehicle problems, but one of the most prevalent causes of car wrecks and accidents is ineffective tires!

Imagine you’re racing off-road and your tires explode due to a sharp rock. Within that split second, the odds of colliding, going off a cliff, or toppling over and somersaulting a record number of times soar. According to this review, This is quite dangerous for drivers, which is why the Cooper Evolution M/T has Stone Barrier Technology, which protects the tire from sharp rocks that may accidentally puncture it.

Speed Ratings

Tire speed ratings exist, and they do differ from one tire to the next. The speed rating of a tire is the maximum speed it can handle before becoming unstable or uncomfortable. Tires are ranked from A1 to Y in a non-alphabetical sequence based on their speed rating. A1 has the lowest speed rating of 3 mph, and Y has the fastest speed rating of 186 mph.

Unlike other tires with different speed ratings, the Cooper Evolution M/T has a single Q speed rating, which means it can comfortably manage speeds of up to 100 mph. This means that you can reach speeds of up to 100 mph over muddy terrain while the Cooper Evolution M/T maintains a firm grip on the ground.

Speed Ratings

Cooper Evolution M/T Test Drive

Tires may play an important role in vehicle operation. As a result, to make an accurate judgment about that product, we need to know facts about the tire’s performance in a variety of conditions.

In addition, you must consider several additional criteria.

Maintenance indications

In this review, Cooper Evolution M/T tire longevity and maintenance are critical in maintaining operating stability and assuring vehicle safety as a tire product specializing in overcoming difficult terrain.

You won’t have to worry about using other dirty tires because of their durability. No device can avoid tire wear and tear, as well as other issues that may arise during vehicle usage.

Because, whether we like it or not, these processes must occur every time we operate the car and create friction between the tire and the road surface. Evolution M/T, on the other hand, can greatly decrease each danger/potential with its improved rubber compound. It significantly improves endurance.

When purchasing tires, the manufacturer, like other items, provides extensive warranty schemes. If the initial 2/32-inch wear is a concern, the manufacturer will accept a free replacement.

If you need to convert a specific number of years, it will correspond to 6 years of continuous warranty. The company maintains various support policies until the tire depth reaches 2/32 inches.

Dry Traction

Moving on even flat, dry terrain will be rather easy for a device capable of negotiating enormous mud pools, such as the Cooper Evolution M/T. From smooth and steady interstate highways to difficult roads like suburban regions or even sandy places, the tires are stable.

Several characteristics have contributed to the tire’s grip and smoothness. The structural material is an important component of a tire, and in the evolution of M/T, it is a contemporary composite.

This tire model is more durable and has better resistance to impacts from soil and even heat from the road surface thanks to the amazing features of this compound.

The manufacturer has supplied the tire with a unique barrier made of raised ridges to reduce/minimize environmental damages, typically rock or sand.

This barrier system will eliminate the phenomenon of gravel and grit getting stuck. In other words, mid-way tire punctures on bumpy roads will be less common.

Wet and Slick Roads Traction

In this review, In addition to being solid on dry roads, the Cooper Evolution M/T tire offers us a remarkable performance in wet terrain with rain or snow cover.

First and foremost, the mudslide serves as a water conductor, preventing excess water from lingering on the product’s surface. Essentially, the device cuts the correct width between the tread blocks above the tire.

These grooves handle liquids that adhere to tires and guide dirt over dry roads with high throughput, eliminating hydraulic issues affecting the vehicle’s performance.

If you are unaware, hydrolysis is one of the most dangerous phenomena when driving on wet roads. Water will completely cover the tire surface at these times, preventing and eliminating friction. However, there will be no grip if there is no contact between the tire and the road surface.

Furthermore, the built-in mechanisms inside the Cooper Evolution M/T provide this product with improved grip, particularly when riding in wet and slippery conditions.

Because one of the causes of risky driving, in addition to processes like hydration, is difficulties like slippage due to a lack of grip.

Wet surfaces, particularly flooded roadways, often offer outstanding resistance when we move over muddy surfaces, in contrast to dry surfaces. As a result, the remarkable talent of the Cooper Evolution M/T will be crucial in making us feel more confident when driving in these locations.

Snow Traction

Snow is one of the most difficult terrain conditions to manage, and only a few tire products are capable of doing so. Ice, like dirt, can render tires inoperable by producing mud that completely prevents the vehicle from moving.

Not only that, but the shallow snow sections conceal various hazards from the slick road. Fortunately, the Cooper Evolution M/T is still capable of navigating snow-covered highways.

The grooves on the tire’s surface can readily manage the snow, helping us to cut a route through the thick snow.

In the case of a slick surface, the ability to grip and the edges to create friction will be a huge aid in making a maneuver safer and more stable.

Durability and Off-Road Traction

In this review, The Cooper Evolution M/T Tire has an aggressive tread design with a high void ratio, aimed at delivering optimum traction on difficult terrain.

Notably, the tread has very big shoulder blocks with alternating scoops for digging into soil and mud, as well as a Trail Grip Sidewall design for grabbing onto larger boulders for increased rock crawling ability.

Furthermore, the tread has Mud Slingers between those huge blocks, which clean the tire of mud while maintaining traction.

Cooper included Stone Barriers on the tread to prevent chipping or perforating the durable rubber compound.

According to our off-road tests, the Evolution M/T is one of the best off-road tires at its price point.

The tire finds dirt and gravel almost too easily – it will never lose traction or get stranded there.

I was especially delighted with the tread’s stone rejection, as it prevented tiny stones from getting lodged inside the grooves.

The Evolution M/T provided even better mud traction; I was worried I’d get stuck, but it dug into the mud (and turf) and propelled me ahead.

The strong structure of all sizes allows for lower pressures, making the tire ideal for rock crawling. Lower pressures can also make the Evolution M/T a viable sand tire, although a less severe pattern may be preferable.

The designers appear to have designed the chip-resistant tread compound to survive the rigors of extended off-roading.

Comfort

To achieve solid performance in moving through tough terrain, In this review, the manufacturer has sacrificed less comfort than the Cooper Evolution M/T tire provides to the customer.

Of course, when you equip this tire model for your vehicle, you won’t have to worry about feeling persistent agony. However, unlike other goods, this tire cannot provide complete smoothness.

Before deciding whether or not to buy this product, carefully consider the sound that the tire makes.

Handling and Steering Feel

Tires with huge tread blocks might react unpredictably and be difficult to drive on public roads, particularly tarmac with longitudinal flaws.

Center tread blocks that practically link to form a continuous rib worked for Cooper to counteract this.

For such an aggressive tire, the Evolution M/T rides nicely on center and doesn’t swerve much, making long trips easier. It’s not very responsive, but that’s to be expected from a mud-terrain tire.

Braking

The Cooper Evolution M/T mud-terrain tires excel in challenging off-road conditions like mud, dirt, pebbles, and uneven terrain. These tires often have aggressive tread patterns with wide and deep lugs that give exceptional off-road traction.

Mud-terrain tires may respond differently than regular all-terrain or highway tires when it comes to braking performance. They may have slightly longer stopping distances on dry, paved terrain due to their tough tread design. Deep grooves and lugs may influence the contact area of the tire with the road, resulting in lower grip and braking effectiveness on smooth roads.

It is crucial to note that elements such as road conditions, tire pressure, vehicle weight, braking system, and weather conditions can all have an impact on the braking ability of any tire, especially mud-terrain tires. When driving on the road with off-road or mud-terrain tires, use caution and alter your driving style to account for potential variations in braking capability.

Road Noise

In this review, The Cooper Evolution M/T mud-terrain tire is well-known for its off-road prowess. However, it produces a significant amount of road noise, which may not be suited for individuals seeking a quiet ride, particularly on paved roads.

Here are some Cooper Evolution M/T reviews that mention road noise:

  • “There is some road noise, but it is surprisingly quiet compared to others.”
  • “The Cooper Evolution M/T generates a significant amount of road noise, which may not be suitable for those looking for a quiet ride, especially on paved roads,” says TopTireReview.
  • “On the highway at 50–70, these EVO MTs are well-mannered in terms of noise,” says Trail 4Runner. When the psi is reduced, they no longer sound like regular mud terrain.”
  • Overall, the Cooper Evolution M/T is a fantastic mud-terrain tire with exceptional off-road performance. It does, however, produce a notable amount of road noise, so it may not be the best choice for people seeking a quiet ride.

Traction Performance

Tire traction is the pace at which a tire performs on a given road condition. It should be noted that not all tires have the same traction on a particular road condition. In this section, we’ll look at how the Cooper Evolution M/T performs in various road conditions.

Mud Performance

Although I dislike mud, it is occasionally necessary to walk over it. And when it comes down to it, these EVO MTs will deliver. We ran them through a mud day, and these tires have some tremendous traction; it’s pretty astounding. But nothing less would be expected of real mud-terrain tires.

Rock Performance

Crawling up rock faces has never been easier. EVO MTs dedicate themselves to being rock tires. They can easily crawl, claw, and hold rocks. This segment was entertaining. I think I crawled up this around 4-5 times.

What I couldn’t achieve with a set of All Terrains, I can now do with these Evolution Mud Terrains, and probably much more. Being able to reduce my air pressure while raising my approach angle has given me greater confidence to crawl through difficult areas.

I’m looking forward to this summer and crawling through areas I’ve never been able to before.

Management of Cooper Evolution M/T Tire

Tire management and maintenance are critical for assuring safety, lifespan, and optimal performance. Here are some general suggestions for caring for Cooper Evolution M/T tires or comparable mud-terrain tires:

Regular Inspections

Inspect your tires on a regular basis for indicators of damage, punctures, or wear. Examine the tire for cuts, bulges, cracks, or other irregularities that could jeopardize its integrity.

Inflation Pressure

Follow Cooper Tires’ or your vehicle’s manufacturer’s recommendations for maintaining the ideal inflation pressure. Tires that are underinflated or overinflated can cause uneven wear, decreased performance, and an increased chance of a blowout.

Tire Rotation

Rotating your tires on a regular basis helps distribute wear more evenly across all four tires. Follow the Cooper Tires recommended rotation schedule or the owner’s manual for your car. A piece of standard advice is to rotate the tires every 6,000 to 8,000 miles.

Balancing

When your tires are rotated or you notice vibrations at specific speeds, balance them. Tires that are properly balanced provide a smooth ride and avoid excessive load on suspension components.

Alignment

Have your vehicle’s alignment examined on a regular basis, especially if you drive off-road or across difficult terrain. A properly aligned vehicle helps to reduce uneven tire wear and provides maximum handling.

Off-Road Use

If you use your Cooper Evolution M/T tires for off-road adventures, be aware of the terrain and driving conditions. Avoid conditions that could cause high tire stress, such as sharp rocks or rough obstructions.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Clean your tires properly after off-road trips to eliminate dirt, mud, and debris that can lead to premature wear. Examine the tires for any cuts or damage that may have occurred during off-road activity.

Storage

If you’re going to be storing your vehicle or tires for an extended period of time, make sure to clean them and keep them in a cool, dry spot away from direct sunshine and harsh temperatures.

Tire Repairs

If your tire develops a puncture or other damage, contact a professional tire repair service. Some punctures are repairable, while others may require tire replacement.

Tire Replacement

As your tires wear down and reach their tread wear indicators, you must replace them to ensure safety and performance. Cooper Evolution M/T tires, like any other mud-terrain tire, have a limited lifespan, especially when used extensively off-road.

Tire Replacement

Mileage of Cooper Evolution M/T

Cooper Tire estimates that the Cooper Evolution M/T will have a tread life of 45,000 kilometers. However, this is only a rough estimate; actual tread life will vary depending on how the tires are used. If the tires are predominantly driven on paved roads, they should last longer than 45,000 miles. However, if the tires are routinely driven off-road, they will most certainly wear out sooner.

Cooper Evolution M / T design characteristics

The existence of grooves on the bottom of the grooves that protect the tread from various types of sharp objects and stones is one of the elements in the longevity of Cooper Evolution M / T all seasons.

It should be mentioned that the model’s design is centered on improving driving comfort when traveling on paved roads, among other things.

  • Massive alternating excavator blocks improve traction on sand, loose soil, and sticky mud.
  • Dirt pushers speed up self-cleaning.
  • Sidewall hooks aid with rock crawling and prevent tire damage.
  • Groove barriers protect the tread from damage caused by stones and other sharp items lodged in it.
  • In the United States, they offer tires in 12 sizes with rims ranging from 15 to 20 inches.
  • The outside diameter is 35 inches. We stud the tires for better traction on ice.

Cooper Evolution M/T Important Technologies

Let’s begin by familiarizing ourselves with what we’re looking at. The Cooper Evolution M/T’s “highly efficient” label doesn’t seem to compensate for the technology package contained in the tire. In terms of important technologies, the Cooper Evolution M/T employs features such as:

  • Earth digger technology: Getting stuck in the mud is no fun, and constantly revving the engine while trying to get out can simply get you trapped deeper. The Cooper Evolution M/T overcomes this by having massive shoulder scoops and lugs that dig deeper into the dirt, sand, and mud to gain grip and keep you moving.
  • Mudslinger technology: It’s easy to get bogged when your tires can’t get rid of the mud that’s slowly building while you drive over difficult terrain. With the Mud Slingers Technology in the Cooper Evolution M/T, you won’t have to deal with this setback. The tires have large and broader pits that easily let mud accumulate as you drive.
  • Trial grip sidewalls: Trail Grip Sidewalls are located around the edges and topmost areas of the Cooper Evolution, M/T sides, and use climbers to grasp onto stones and twigs to prevent the sides from rubbing and burying you further in the mud, causing tire damage.
  • Stone barrier technology: The Cooper Evolution M/T has Stone Barrier Technology, which prevents sharp and hazardous rocks from entering the tire’s base and inflicting damage. The system also removes pebbles and other things that become lodged in the tires.

Should I Invest in the Cooper Evolution M/T Tire?

The Cooper Evolution M/T is a premium manufacturer’s cheapest mud-terrain tire, although it competes with more expensive competitors in practically every category, including off-road and on-road traction. It is also extremely tough and long-lasting, making it an even better buy.

So, if you’re looking for a high-traction off-road tire, I definitely recommend the Evolution M/T!

Tread Wear Protection: Warranties for tread wear protection are also available, and they take effect if the tire does not travel the distance that the company estimates it will and wears past the indicators.

Standard Coverage: If your Cooper Evolution tire fails before the initial 2/32-inch mark, there will be a free tire replacement.

Initial Impressions on the Cooper Evolution M/T

I was ready for something bigger, specifically a Mud-Terrain (M/T), after putting 20K miles on the Toyo Xtreme AT 2s (285/75R17 – 33.8′′). Although the ATs functioned admirably given the conditions I imposed on them, they were never going to perform like a true MT.

After a recent wheeling trip, I noticed a few 3rd Gens, all equipped with MTs, navigating obstacles much more easily than me with the ATs. The terrain was sloppy, muddy, and rainy, with enormous loose rocks, moguls, and ledges, all with steep ascents. With All-Terrain tires aired down to 18 psi, I had no possibility of producing Mud-Terrain tire results.

My Additional Mud Terrains

After roughly 3K miles on the Tread Wright Guard Dogs (our MGM 2016 TEP), they became a little noisy on the freeway. There’s nothing a little music can’t solve, but they’re a touch noisy for a daily driver. With this in mind, I was cautious to run Mud-Terrains on our white 4Runner (our 2014 TEP) at first. And, with all due respect, most Mud Terrain tires make noise, especially after a few thousand miles; it comes with the territory.

I’ve run Michelin Defenders, Bridgestone Duelers, Toyo AT 2 Extreme, BFG KO2s, Nitto Terra Grapplers, and Tread Wright Guard Dogs after owning three 5th Gen 4Runners. All of these tires have their own space, each serving a particular purpose. Today, however, we will be discussing a high-quality brand name Mud-Terrain tire, the Cooper Evolution M/T.
