This Falken Wildpeak M/T review will demonstrate why this tire deserves your full attention. If you own an SUV or light vehicle that likes to leave city roads for some off-road activity, this tire is the best compromise available.

About Falken Wildpeak M/T Tire

The 2016 Falken WildPeak M/T has finally been released after years of anticipation. The Falken MT is designed for serious off-road performance, thanks to its tough tread design and softer compound. This is the same tire that was a driving force in the 2014 KOH race.

The sturdy Wildpeak M/T is built to get you there and back, whether you’re on pavement, mud, snow, or rocks. It’s trusted by the pros to take on the roughest terrain. Falken’s innovative 3-ply DURASPEC Sidewall Technology was created for the M/T to withstand the most rigorous off-road conditions. DURASPECTM also has two high-ply turn-ups that give an extra layer of protection and durability. A muscular upper sidewall adds traction at low air pressures on rough terrain. The Wildpeak M/T has excellent driving manners as well, thanks to an optimized variable three-pitch tread design and precision manufacturing technology.

Falken has introduced 25 LT and non-LT sizes ranging from 15-20 inches, with more to follow. All versions have a load range rating of C or E.

Overview of Falken Wildpeak M/T Tire

Falken engineers test the Wildpeak M/T tires extensively during production. The Falken M/T has performed admirably in tests, whether driving on slick roads or climbing boulders. It can readily navigate mud, grass, dirt, gravel, and so forth, and it can easily drive over rocks.

Furthermore, despite the tire’s abrasive tread design, there is a pattern that lowers road noises to a minimum when compared to other typical mud-terrain tires. Furthermore, Falken has given the tire the potential to defend you from sidewall impairment with its Duraspec 3-ply sidewall feature. Because the majority of drivers spend a significant amount of time driving on the streets, Falken has increased the level of comfort for extended journeys as compared to other M/T standards.

This tire performed admirably in terms of wet and snow traction. It can help you avoid yawing situations by preventing slipperiness. The tough rubber that composes it can hold up to 3500 pounds, so you don’t have to worry about the car’s weight capacity.

Falken tires initially come in wheel widths ranging from 15 to 20 inches. It also has a relatively low price when compared to all of the features and stability that it has.

Overview of Falken Wildpeak MT Tire

Benefits of Falken Wildpeak M/T Tires

  • A Falken proprietary technology developed to withstand the most punishing off-road conditions
  • Provide an additional layer of protection
  • Provide tread-pattern rigidity in the contact patch, enhancing stability and handling while preventing stones from becoming trapped in the grooves
  • Shed mud from the tread grooves to prevent loss of traction, ensuring maximum grip while preventing rocks from puncturing the base of the tread
  • Protects the tire from sharp pebbles and provides extra off-road grip at low tire pressures or in off-camber situations
  • Positions the tread blocks to create an unusually quiet ride

Features of Falken Wildpeak M/T Tire

Given that we’re discussing an off-road tire, the majority of the characteristics here are geared toward that market. Falken wants to improve the Wildpeak M/T because it will be used largely in those situations.

Off-road handling is critical, and the initial characteristic of the Wildpeak M/T centers around it. Falken built the middle blocks with step-down supports as part of the tread design, which keeps them firmer and improves handling. The design of this tire helps prevent stones from being caught in the tread, preventing damage and premature wear.

In off-roading circumstances, keeping the tire intact and undamaged is critical, so various safeguards are in place. The first is the rubber compound, which is cut and chip resistant, implying that the tire will last even in the most extreme conditions. To accomplish rock crawling, off-road tires have drastically reduced pressures. The tire also has sidewall protectors and additional shoulder blocks to protect the sidewall. These should not only protect the tires from harm, but they should also improve traction when the tire pressure is low.

In muddy conditions, the tread pattern is essential for providing grip, but mud often gets into the grooves, limiting performance. To avoid this. Falken incorporated protective features into the grooves and designed them to be self-cleaning. In this review, It should imply that the Falken WildPeak M/T Tire will keep the tread clean and provide the best performance possible.

The most prevalent issue with mud-terrain tires on paved roads is noise. To address this, Falken optimized the tread pattern of the Wildpeak M/T, to make it more silent on the road.

Falken Wildpeak M/T Tire Test Drive

In this review, The Falken Wildpeak M/T Tire, after a long wait, did not disappoint the riders for the most part. The tires are easier to balance than other types, and the tread shape strengthens the tire, minimizing tearing when driving over pointed rocks, trees, or other harsh road surfaces.

The thing that most surprised us is noise reduction. You no longer need earplugs while driving at high speeds on the highway. What a wonderful feature!

However, the only area in which we are a little dissatisfied is the tread life. Falken developed a softer composition that delivers a more comfortable extended ride experience, albeit at the expense of reduced tread life. Despite a minor flaw, we believe this feature is quite useful for anyone who enjoys traveling, as we do.

Falken tires are fantastic and provide a lot of joy to a lot of individuals. Overall, even if the tires are not in the same league as the Cooper MTP, BFG KM2, and a few others, they still rate in the top half of the M/T group.

Performance of Falken Wildpeak M/T

Tread Appearance

This tire’s symmetrical design has very hefty shoulder blocks with noticeable stone ejectors in between.

They have staggered outside edges (with mud scoops) that connect to large sidewall lugs, which aids in protection and traction (when the tire is run at low air pressure).

These elongated lugs have large siping slots that narrow towards the center (essentially, they are suited for wet and winter performance).

There are two ribs in the middle, separated by smaller L-shaped pieces.

These lugs contain full-depth interlocking sipes as well as strong snow vices around the edges.

(The term “snow vices” refers to the stepped edges that these lugs form on their sides.

Wet Performance

Mud tires are generally not suitable for wet roads because they are prone to slippage.

They are good at one component of wet traction, hydroplaning because with larger grooves they can readily evacuate water out through different channels, but they are significantly lacking in giving enough siping, which yields the majority of the wet grip.

Sipes suck water particles into their slits, allowing the lugs to grip the (clean) surface.

And the Falken Wildpeak M/T performs admirably here.

It has full-depth interlocking sipes with numerous angle changes. This allows them to remain flexible as the tire brakes, accelerates, or rotates.

Furthermore, the tire contains a silica-rich composition that improves the siping suction abilities by providing the necessary flexibility.

Winter Traction

Aside from tire maneuverability, there are also numerous sorts of terrains to consider in winter traction, like ice and fluffy snow.

Now, for ice and compacted snow, I don’t recommend any mud tires since they simply don’t have the holding power.

In deeper terrains, however, you can never go wrong with Falken Wildpeak M/T, even if it is not labeled with a 3-peak mountain snowflake grade.

(This grade isn’t everything, it’s just an acceleration test, I covered it in detail here).

In this review, So the Falken WildPeak M/T tire features an all-season composition that is extremely resistant to freezing conditions. As a result, its biters remain malleable and retain their gripping abilities.

Furthermore, in addition to having full-depth sipes, its center lugs include snow vices around their edges, which grip and lodge snow particles.

The same is true for the shoulder lugs, which have thicker siping slots that dig into the snow and trap them.

This permits the tire to establish snow-to-snow contact, which produces more friction than plain rubber.

Furthermore, the shoulder blocks’ extended lugs and staggered edges glide effortlessly through tougher terrain.

Dry Performance

Roads and pavements are typically unsuitable for mud tires due to their lack of traction. They are, of course, extremely noisy.
With Wildpeak M/T, things aren’t so horrible.

To combat noise, the tire uses variable pitch technology. Its tread blocks varied slightly in geometry from lug to lug, allowing air particles impacting them to emit different types of tones.

The non-simultaneous amplification of those tones reduces noise.

However, in terms of traction, things are much more appreciative because they provide adequate steering reaction, allowing you to truly comprehend what’s going on with them dynamically.

On Road Performance

Whether we like it or not, the bulk of us spend 90% of our time on pavement, thus it seems to reason that our tires should perform well on it. Unfortunately, M/Ts have always fared poorly in this area, but thanks to new tire technology, this is beginning to change.

Instead of focusing just on the off-road elements of the rubber, tire engineers are putting in significant effort to create a product that is adaptable enough for daily driving, and the Falken tire team is no exception. To begin, they used a low void ratio (the percentage of tread block to space between them) to keep a bigger portion of rubber in constant contact with the ground. This significantly enhanced traction on hard terrain, offering the tire better handling, braking, and accelerating characteristics on dry roads.

But it was the performance in wet and slippery weather that really impressed me. A rainstorm or heavy snow on the pavement was pretty much the death knell for a standard mud tire, but the Falkens held on amazingly effectively, even saving my butt in the snow scenario I stated in the opening. While traction will never be as good in snow or rain as it is in dry weather, these M/Ts perform better than I could have hoped.

Off-Road Performance

Off-roading is a breeze for any mud terrain tires. However, there are several points worth mentioning, particularly when it comes to Falken’s MT tire. Consider all of the terrains on which I tested these tires.

Muddy Tracks

The Falken WildPeak M/T is specifically intended for the most difficult muddy terrain. Its computer-developed lug geometry provides a superb blend of lateral and longitudinal tread voids, allowing heavy mud to drain fast.

Furthermore, its scooping central lugs, staggered shoulders, and thick sidewall blocks provide incredible paddling efficacy, pushing muck backward and generating forward momentum with it.

Rocky Terrains

Rocky terrain necessitates tires with high durability and strong multi-directional gripping.
And Wildpeak M/T fits both of your expectations.

Its softer component is extremely sticky to the rough surface, especially while airborne.

Its supple rubber and notched blocks chew in all directions, providing outstanding climbing skills, while its full-depth sipes split open the blocks when needed, increasing bite.

This tire also has a high level of durability.

The three-ply sidewalls, together with two additional layers of polyamide, offer enough protection from sharper items.

The bold stone ejectors between the shoulders prevent mud, dirt, or stones from becoming lodged, and the cut and chip-resistant rubber provides excellent traction on gravel roads (even at high speeds).

Tread Life and Wear

I’ve put just about 14,000 miles on these Falken M/Ts since November of last year, traveling from California to Texas. They’ve seen a lot of dirt, mud, snow, sand, and rocks, with a lot of concrete in between, and they’ve handled it rather well so far. We’ve seen some cupping and feathering as the tire nears 15,000 miles, which has resulted in some additional noise and vibration.

Still, after 14,000 miles of driving, our tread depth is an average of 17.25/32′′. That means we’ve consumed 22 percent of the tire’s lifespan, based on the purchase tread depth of 21/32′′ and a minimum replacement of 4/32′′. If you do the arithmetic, that equates to a total lifespan of 63,259 miles but don’t count on it. The deterioration rates are expected to grow over time, but I am pleased with the tread life they have shown so far.

In the end, the Falken M/Ts are an excellent choice for an M/T. They look fantastic, have done all I’ve asked of them off-road, are tough as nails, and are still comfortable enough for commutes and lengthy road trips.

They’re even less expensive than the competition, at $222 per tire in 315/75/R16 on Discount Tire’s website. When compared to the current list price of the BFG KM2 at $277 or the STT Pro at $307, you may save a significant amount of money.

So, if you want an aggressive off-road tire that can manage the trail’s demands without breaking the bank, the Falken Wildpeak M/T is hard to beat.

Tread Life and Wear

Comfort

The ride comfort was average at best, although it wasn’t particularly severe. The Falken Wildpeak M/T handled well on the highway, allowing me to relax after an afternoon of off-roading. Because your car will not be traversing through loose pebbles and soil all of the time, I believe comfort is a crucial feature of a mud-terrain tire. Drivers must use comfortable tires on regular roads. The Falken Wildpeak M/T earns a thumbs up in this category.

Noise

Because the Falken Wildpeak M/T has a hefty tread design, you’d expect to be drowned out by tire roar, but the contrary is true. The smooth tarmac made the tires roll so quietly that it startled me. It’s not as quiet as a touring tire, but I never imagined an off-road tire could run as silently on normal roads as the Falken Wildpeak M/T.

Important Technologies

Falken attempts to compete with premium tire manufacturers by providing comparable quality at a lower price. However, that isn’t the only thing that distinguishes their tires, such as the Wildpeak M/T, and some of the remaining significant features include a strengthened DuraSpec sidewall structure and huge stiff tread blocks for both off-road and on-road stability.

DuraSpec sidewall construction: DuraSpec sidewall construction is a Falken proprietary technology that provides an extra layer of sidewall stability. The sidewall has two high turn-ups that contribute to its density and toughness, so even sharp rocks cannot harm or puncture it.

Rigid tread blocks: Wildpeak M/T tires are highly successful on inaccessible terrains due to the three-pitch tread pattern with massive and rigid tread blocks. This tread pattern is aggressive enough to handle a variety of rocky terrains while remaining quiet enough to be used on conventional highways.

Safety Features

In this review, As previously stated, Falken Wildpeak M/T tire is suitable for usage on highways, public roads, and off-road driving. In any case, the tread pattern and reinforced 3-ply inner construction ensure your safety and increase driving stability.

Deep grooves between the stiff center blocks and grooves between the shoulder blocks are also standard on Wildpeak M/T tires. They function to remove water and keep your vehicle from hydroplaning. As a result, you won’t have to worry about losing control and ground grip beneath a layer of water or sliding out of the lane.

Speed Ratings

The speed index isn’t the most significant factor in off-road and mud-terrain tires. However, because you can drive with Wildpeak M/T tires as your daily SUV tires, it’s critical that you can drive at optimal highway speeds.

Falken also made a point of assisting with this by giving all of their tires a “Q” speed rating. It means you can drive up to 100 mph with a Wildpeak M/T set attached. That’s fairly good for an off-road tire, and the tread shape, combined with structural solidity, allows you to reach 100 mph without annoying noises or road vibrations.

Durability

These tires survive remarkably long due to the designed tread pattern for driving on public roads and highways rather than merely off-road terrains. You’ll reach the 15,000-mile mark with little obvious wear, and the tires can still continue up to 40,000 miles or more.

Because of the DuraSpec sidewall construction, you won’t have to worry about sidewall deterioration for a long time after purchasing them. On top of that, the tread block pattern includes moving blocks that act as stone ejectors, making these among the most durable M/T tires available.

Maintenance Indications

Even though Falken Wildpeak M/T tires have a long lifespan, you must pay attention to many maintenance indicators. First, check the tire pressure as instructed by your car’s owner’s manual.

While passenger car tires have a maximum tread depth of 2/32′′, mud terrain tires demand higher tread depth. For maximum off-road driving performance, make sure your Falken Wildpeak M/T tires have at least 4/32′′ of tread remaining. You can inspect the tread by inserting a tire tread depth gauge between the tread blocks for an accurate reading.

Alternatives and Competitors

The mud-terrain tire market is crowded, but Falken’s Wildpeak M/T targets a specific type of driver. These are the primary competitors of the Wildpeak M/T tire in terms of a smooth ride, strong off-road capability, and solid on-road performance:

Alternatives and Competitors

Mileage of Falken WildPeak M/T Tire

In this review, The treadwear rating of the Falken WildPeak M/T tire is 320, which is considered typical for a mud-terrain tire. This indicates that under normal driving circumstances, the tire should last around 32,000 miles. However, the actual mileage that the tire will last may vary depending on a variety of factors such as driving style, terrain, and maintenance plan.

According to some user reports, with proper care, the Falken WildPeak M/T tire can last up to 50,000 miles or more. Tires can wear out sooner if they are driven aggressively or over tough terrain.

Here are some pointers to help you get the most out of your Falken WildPeak M/T tires:

  • Rotate tires every 6,000 to 8,000 miles.
  • Get your wheels aligned every 12,000 to 15,000 miles.
  • Maintain correct tire inflation.
  • Avoid driving aggressively or on slick surfaces.
  • Check your tires for symptoms of wear and tear on a regular basis.

How Does It Perform on Dry Roads?

The Wildpeak M/T won’t win any races as a mud-terrain tire, so don’t expect anything more than adequate performance in these conditions.

The performance you’ll get is enough for normal driving, but that’s about it. You can get usable traction and grip levels that won’t slip too much but don’t expect the tire to hold well if you accelerate fast or enter a bend quickly. The Wildpeak M/T offers good highway stability, although you may need to make minor adjustments.

When it comes to braking distances, they aren’t as short as they are with a touring tire, but they are adequate when compared to other mud-terrain tires. In this review, You will likely be fine in this aspect because you shouldn’t drive the Falken WildPeak M/T Tire at the limit or very high speeds.

For a tire in this category, the handling is adequate. It’s sensitive enough to change direction in less than a second, but don’t expect too much feedback, as that’s what you should anticipate.

In terms of Off-Road Performance, How Does It Compare to an A/T Tire?

In this review, Falken designed the Wildpeak M/T tire for a different reason. The Wildpeak M/T is the bigger and brasher brother of an all-terrain tire like the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W. It is more athletic and tougher than the Wildpeak A/T3W.

However, the Wildpeak A/T3W outperforms in terms of grace and smooth execution. It is the bookworm who enjoys a game of football on weekends. It can keep up with the big boys, but only on the most difficult terrain.

As a result, the Falken Wildpeak M/T is the superior off-road alternative. The same is true when dealing with heavy snow in bitterly cold weather. The Wildpeak M/T performs better and grips harder as the route gets tougher.

What Happens if the Tire Is Driven on the Highway?

There will be a tire roar and a little harsh ride. However, it is not as horrible as you believe. You can’t expect mud tires to be quiet and composed when you exceed the speed limit, but if you drive responsibly, you won’t be disappointed.

To be fair, the tire roar only becomes noticeable as you approach 60 to 80 mph. Things can become a little more frantic as you ascend. This, in my perspective, is not a negative thing. Manufacturers produce mud tires exclusively for off-road driving. Everything else is a bonus.

The low cost is another advantage. It is less expensive than mud tires from more well-known companies. Nonetheless, with prolonged wear, you achieve acceptable levels of refinement. This is more than impressive in my opinion.

Is It Refined and Comfortable?

I expected the Wildpeak M/T to score poorly on this test, but I was pleasantly pleased. No, it’s not the best touring tire in the world, but Falken has done a good job developing this mud-terrain tire.

In this review, When inflated to the regular pressure, the Falken WildPeak M/T tire is alright with minor road imperfections, but it’s a little harsh overall. It does not smooth out the larger bumps, thus the cabin will feel more jolts and vibrations. This can be mitigated considerably by lowering tire pressure, but only if done correctly. You’ll feel like you’re driving on a waterbed if you go too far down.

What surprised me the most was the noise levels. I’d say the Wildpeak M/T is reasonably quiet for a mud-terrain tire. There is some noise, which is unavoidable, and it’s mostly a low grumble, but it’s not as obtrusive as some of the other versions I’ve driven.

Is It Refined and Comfortable

How Do the Grip Levels Compare in Dry and Rainy Conditions?

To put it another way. All-terrain or A/T tires are a preferable alternative if your pickup truck or SUV is usually driven on the highway (but you still require mid-off-road capability). Installing larger mud tires for this application is a complete waste of money.

However, if your truck has been upgraded to handle extreme off-road terrain, the Falken Wildpeak M/T is a good choice. However, on the way home, the tires provide above-average comfort and road silence, which is desirable in an off-road tire.

Of course, all of this is dependent on your vehicle’s NVH and suspension/chassis tune. For example, if your truck or SUV has aftermarket lift kits and off-road suspension, the ride will be naturally bouncy even if you’re wearing A/T tires on smooth roads. That is how the game is played, and there is no point in arguing about the rules.

And if you’re looking for high-speed stability and improved wet handling from a set of M/T tires, you’re looking in the wrong place. On smooth roads, dry and wet handling is somewhat above average, but H/T or A/T tires can provide greater overall traction.

In this review, however, the Falken Wildpeak M/T Tire is more than capable of handling rough roads, grass, sand, loose gravel, dirt, or mud. It’s a no-compromise mud tire that won’t back down when the roads become tougher.

Should I Invest in the Falken Wildpeak M/T?

If you’re seeking tremendous off-road performance as well as excellent finesse on smooth roads in a mud tire, the answer is a loud yes! It is also available in a variety of sizes ranging from 15″ to 20″ in diameter and up to 37″ in length.

The most important reason to go with the Falken Wildpeak M/T is the pricing. It’s somewhere in the middle of the price range and, barring Chinese-made variants remains one of the more cheap options.

Only use a robust and rugged set of mud tires when the roads become harder. Allow the Falken Wildpeak M/T to take you down less frequented routes in comfort and safety.

Price Range

Falken Wildpeak M/T is a reasonably priced mud-terrain tire, albeit its pricing isn’t quite low. Still, it’s not the most expensive option, with a single 15-inch tire costing roughly $165.

As the size and trims increase, so does the price, thus a single 20′′ tire can be found for roughly $360. Nonetheless, given the competition and the predicted durability of this tire, it’s a very reasonable price.

Falken Wildpeak M/T Warranty

Like most mud-terrain tires, the Wildpeak M/T does not come with a tread life warranty. However, like with all Falken tires, materials, and workmanship are guaranteed for the first five years from the date of purchase, and Falken will replace the tire for the first 2/32 inch of treadwear, with a prorated amount down to even the last 2/32 of tread depth.

However, this tire comes with a 5-year guarantee, so you won’t have to worry about not getting your money back if you buy these.

How Long Are the Falken Wildpeak MT Tires Good for?

In this review, The Falken Wildpeak M/T, like almost all mud-terrain tires, does not come with a tread life warranty, which indicates the estimated tire life. However, based on user feedback, we predict a 40,000-mile lifespan, which is approximately average for MT tires. (We’ll caution that tread life can vary greatly depending on how much off-road abuse as well as how much on-road use they get).

Is the Falken Wildpeak M/T Worth the Money?

The Wildpeak M/T is priced amid the mid-range class, which is a good point. It costs less than the Hankook Dynapro MT2 but more than the Cooper Evolution M/T. This makes it significantly less expensive than the Goodyear Adventure MT/R with Kevlar and the BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3.

Final Thoughts

It’s been a long time coming, but the Falken M/T is now here, and it doesn’t disappoint for the most part. The softer tread compound delivers excellent performance in practically any off-road condition. The larger voids help with cleanouts and do a good job.

We discovered that the tires are significantly easier to balance than those on previous models. Furthermore, the tread architecture gives the necessary strength to prevent punctures and tearing on rocks, trees, and other harsh debris.

When it comes to street driving, Falken has done an excellent job with this tire. It’s one of the better models in terms of road noise reduction, which was a pleasant surprise. You do not need earplugs when driving at higher speeds.

The one area that might let you down is tread life. The softer compound results in shorter tread life. With a mix of off and on-road driving, expect to get 20-25K miles out of the tread.

Overall, while this tire may not be at the top of the class in terms of all-around performance when compared to tires like the BFG KM2, Cooper MTP, and a few others, it is definitely in the upper half of the MT category. If you’re seeking a sturdy and dependable MT tire that’s also a little less expensive than many competitor models, this is a good option.
